St. Mary’s Hospital for Children is a pediatric rehabilitation facility that offers a recovery based model of care for both our inpatient and intensive day patient programs. Our facility is the only intensive pediatric activity based program in the New York Metro Area. Our intensive Locomotor Training Program accepts children and adolescents with spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, Guillian-Barre Syndrome, Acute Flaccid Myelitis, and Cerebrovascular Accident. The interventions in this program focus on sending appropriate input to the nervous system in a systematic way so that it can learn tasks such as sitting upright, standing, and walking. This training includes three primary components; step training in a body weight supported treadmill system, overground assessment and community integration activities. The innovative models of care offered by our interdisciplinary teams are complimented by a strong culture of patient & family centered care and a commitment to supporting individuals through the full continuum of care.
